NFL 2010 Season Predictions: AFC North Pittsburgh Steelers

Today we have the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Sorry for the break in the teams, I was just traveling back home to Michigan from Colorado. I am six teams behind, so I will put up six teams today, so look at them all. Also, as many may have seen, Brett Favre reportedly retired today and that will of course change my predictions. I am going to wait and see what will stick before I change things, but I think it will more or less change the NFC more than the AFC, but I will let you know my changes when this announcement is for sure.

Analysis: The first issue with the Steelers is obviously Ben Roethlisberger and his four to six game suspension. So, at quarterback, nobody knows who will take over. Dennis Dixon could be up for the task. He has speed and has grown since being drafted and learning from Charlie Batch and Big Ben. Byron Leftwich is also a strong candidate. He was a starter with the Jaguars, but tapered off in his last years. That is the major concern. If a quarterback can produce, they have Randle El back as a threat as well as the ever-physical Hines Ward and of course Mike Wallace and Heath Miller. Rashard Mendenhall showed a lot of promise with the injury prone Parker out a lot, and now that Parker is gone, Mendenhall has his chance to shine. The third physical defense in this power division has one of the best defensive players back in Troy Polamalu. His return will help tremendously I believe, as they really didn’t know what to do without him last year in the passing attack. LaMarr Woodley is having some problems with the organization right now, but as long as they can get that figured out, the linebacker core is great with James Harrison and Lawrence Timmons. The offense will be the question early on, but if they can get through the weeks with out Big Ben, the team should be ok.

2010 Season Prediction: 11-5, AFC Wildcard
